flower show The Lee W.I.
By Joyce Swain

At our July meeting we enjoyed a talk about “Time Team’s” dig at Chenies Manor by Mrs Val Edwards. They unearthed previously unknown information which has changed much that was thought to be true.

In August, a ‘Strawberry Tea’ in Gill Holland’s garden and a walk with picnic were blessed with fine weather and were a great success. We would have been glad to welcome more friends, children and dogs to join us, but perhaps another time? Members also enjoyed a day trip to the Herb Farm at Sonning Common organised by June Lock.

On another note, we have been saddened by the loss of one member and two former, also much-loved, members. Frankie Walker was a valuable member, being secretary for several years, and dearly loved by us all. Also in her nineties, Dorothy Gutteridge, who lived near The Swan before moving to The Orkneys in recent years, died last month. In common with all the village we mourned the loss of Marjorie Humphreys, the person who always said “Yes, I will”, if anything she could do was needed. We loved them all and they are all sorely missed.
