shop Shop news
By John Fortgang

So far, so good!
By the time you read this the shop will have been open for some five weeks, following the splendid and enjoyable opening celebration, and I am pleased to report that it shows every sign of being successful. I hope that everyone is finding that it sells what you want; if not, just tell us. Equally important is the atmosphere in the shop; it has a real buzz which makes it great fun to work in as well as to shop. And it now sells hot drinks, so you can linger in comfort! However, it is vital that we all continue to use it if it is to go from strength to strength.

But as Geoff says in his letter to us, we are still short of volunteers to work in it. Please look upon it as a pleasure; only a couple of hours here and there, usually with someone else, and the time goes by very quickly!

Shares for sale
Shares in The Lee Parish Community Shop Association Ltd (the Industrial and Provident Act Society under which the shop trades) are now for sale. They are £10 each, and limited to one per person. This makes you a member of the company and therefore part owner of the shop, and entitles you to attend general meetings at which officers are elected, and have your say in the running of the shop – it is, after all, a community amenity. We anticipate holding the first such meeting early in the autumn. Again please contact me, or our secretary Fiona Baxter at Pipers, tel. 837715.

Planning permission for the permanent shop
The other exciting news is that planning permission has been granted for the construction of the extension to the Parish Hall which is intended to give the shop its permanent home. As the current temporary permission for the cabin expires next March we shall be taking steps to raise the finance for that project very shortly.
