The Lee W.I.By Joyce Swain The Lee W.I. met at the Parish Hall on 8th May. The president and secretary took us through the county happenings and possibilities – Hampton Court Show and Fencing (foils, not bits of wood!) among them. We heard about the council meeting in Aylesbury, where after the business part, we enjoyed a talk by the entertaining – if somewhat hoarse – Ann Widdecombe, MP. Back at the homestead we heard of a pleasant stroll round Cliveden in April and are hoping to include watercress acquisition on the next foray to Sarratt. Plans were finalised for the outing to Savill Gardens on the 10th May.
We have received a request
for the loan of our banner for a special embroidery exhibition to tour the
country. We feel this to be quite an honour, specially for the members who
assisted in its making in 1983.June Lock then gave us an exposition of the resolution for this year’s AGM at the Albert Hall. We all felt that we should urge HM Government to stop the closure of community hospitals and June will vote accordingly for it at the meeting in the Albert Hall. We followed this with a short discussion on reducing our carbon footprints, especially by not using plastic bags wherever possible, and on the plight of dairy farmers not receiving a fair price for the production of milk. We concluded with a delicious tea. |
