The Lee W.I.By Joyce Swain The Lee W.I. met on 8th April at the Parish Hall. We were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs Joy Rumboll, a member for many years. We heard of County Federation events – several members are off to Westonbirt Arboretum in May – and a holiday based in Bath. We then heard much of the life story of Mrs Helen Slaymaker, who became a nurse despite being ill in her youth. She became a district nurse-cum-midwife-cum-school-nurse-cum-health visitor in the north of the County. Many of us, including our own district nurse of 40 years, Mrs Betty Fowler, were with her all the way! A nostalgic afternoon. |
