Clerk’s corner By Viv Robins Good news for the opponents of the alternate weekly waste collection, of which I know there are one or two in the Lee: the scheme will not now come into force across the county – or be “rolled out”, as officialdom insists on describing it – until the autumn of 2011. The delay is because Chiltern District Council (CDC) is still developing the technology for composting animal protein. District Councillor Nick Rose told the Parish Council AGM that the CDC was also hoping to introduce a kerbside collection for plastic bottles and cans. New playground danger There have been reports that some children have been using ball-bearing or BB guns in and around the playground in Oxford Street. For those not in the know these fire little plastic pellets at a velocity which, according to one concerned parent, could easily take out a child’s eye. There is also concern that the guns look very like real fire-arms. Police have even warned that teenagers carrying them may be mistaken for armed criminals and shot by marksmen. Children need to be over 17 to own a BB gun and in any case they are not remotely suitable for an area where small children are playing. The Parish Council will be putting up notices to this effect and would strongly urge parents not to allow children onto the playground with these guns. Has any charity helped you? The Parish Council gets lots of requests for money from a variety of charities, but although we have £500 set aside in this year’s budget for donations we don’t want to channel money to organisations with a national profile which do little or no work in The Lee. So if you have had any experience of a particular charity or voluntary organisation which you have found helpful please let me know, confidentially if need be, and the Parish Council can consider putting them on our list of recipients. New man at the top The Lee Parish Council has a new Chairman, Cllr John Ford, who took over from Barnaby Usborne at last month’s AGM. After nine years in the job Barnaby felt it was time for a change, but luckily for his many admirers, of whom I count myself the foremost, he has agreed to stay on the Council to give us the continuing benefit of his knowledge and experience. Karel Lewis has also kindly agreed to continue as Vice-Chairman. |
