By Tony Lea As we have now completed the majority of the work on the Parish Hall, the Committee has been considering what else we could do with some of the money that has been built up as a result of recent events such as the hugely successful Barn Dance! With the shop hopefully beginning its building work in July we will have a building that will prove of great value to the community. In the last couple of years the tennis court has been more regularly used and thanks to the efforts of Roger Morgan the receipts have also shown a significant improvement. However, the surface is showing many signs of wear and tear and the net is somewhat sagging. In addition the wire netting and supports hardly improve the overall appearance. As a result we have been in consultation with several companies which specialise in the re-surfacing and re-netting of such facilities. We have received some eye-watering quotes averaging around £17,000 plus VAT. However, we have found a firm which would be prepared to undertake the project at around £9,500 and whose work is known to us. It would be possible to split the work into two stages but we feel that it would be better to carry it out all at the same time. Therefore we would need to consider ways of raising around £5,000 to complete the project. Perhaps those of you who are regular users of the facility might have some ideas, in which case we would be only too pleased to hear from you. Also, if anybody knows of grants that might be available for such work then please get in touch with us. We think this would provide a greatly improved facility for the Parish as well as finishing off the whole development of that area. |
