By Ed Boakes The 31st August sees four young local adults and one not so local begin their trek which will take them on a trip that will cover approximately 1,120 miles (as the crow flies) in six days. Myself and Victoria Boakes, Christopher Childs and Thomas Brockett, all from Ballinger, and one other, James Bell from Leeds, will be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge. We will be climbing the three tallest mountains in Britain in three days: Ben Nevis (Scotland) on 2nd September; Scafell Pike (Lake District) on 3rd September and Snowdon (Wales) on 4th September. Chris and I had the idea of going away for a weekend to Wales to climb Mt Snowdon but, while talking about this, we decided why not go for broke and do the Three Peaks Challenge as some fun but also do it for charity. The main charity that we are all collecting for is the Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Fund. This charity, which some may have heard of and some others may not, was founded in 1999 by Thomas Ball, then aged nine and himself undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma stage four, which had been diagnosed some 20 months earlier. More details can be found on the charity’s website: www.thomasball.org.uk. If you wish to make any sort of a donation towards our challenge and towards the charity, no matter what size, then please visit www.justgiving.com/3peakstbccf or you can contact me on 837161 or 07912 288712 if you prefer and I can add you to the sponsor forms. |
