From the Editor When you read this edition the evenings will be drawing in! Will global warming have brought us a heat wave or will there be a repeat of last year’s rains? Whatever, nothing can dampen the spirit of the editorial team! Last month the Editor commented it was gratifying that we no longer needed to ghost-write material as our enthusiastic contributors continued to keep articles and letters flooding in. This month is no exception and even despite a bumper 28 pages, I am confronted with the difficult task of deciding what to include. Do not worry, we will always find a place for suitable material, if not in this edition then the next. We have a report of the recent visit by the Bucks Commissioner for Scouting to Lee Common and the presentation to the McCree family of the Chief Scouts Commendation and Medal to honour the commitment and dedication of the late Kate McCree to the scouting movement. “A scout has courage in all difficulties” is as valid today as it was 100 years ago. There is news of the population explosion in Swan Bottom and plans by four young people to scale the Three Peaks in three days, raising money for a children’s cancer fund. We have news of developments at Fromelles following an expedition by a trio of intrepid explorers across the English Channel. There are articles on future events including the Flower Show, Art Workshop and Old Church Trust as well as notice of the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ for Macmillan Cancer Relief. We have reports from local clubs and societies and an update on development plans for The Shop. As we all need to get fit we have another cycle ride and in response to the seasonal enthusiasm for tennis in the aftermath of Wimbledon, a feature on our own ‘Centre Court’. The next edition will be on the 1st September. The editor will be John Fortgang at jfortgang@aol.com. All copy by 10th August. |
