Lee (g)literati out in force
By Colin Sully

The ninth annual Newsletter dinner took place at the end of 2010 to celebrate both literary and social successes during the year. Our guest speaker John Ford, Chairman of the Parish Council, entertained us with a review of the year, including amusing comparisons between Iolanthe and the Coalition Government(!), and between the “rustics and red-necks” of the Tea Party in the USA and the residents of The Lee parish. He even suggested that he might be looking to form a new ‘Cream Tea Party’ in The Lee in 2011… based of course at the Old Church!

The Newsletter Literary Award went to Leslie Robins for his many and varied contributions over the years. In his acceptance speech Leslie admitted to harbouring hopes that his literary skills might one day lead to him being laid to rest alongside Geoffrey Chaucer but “never in my wildest dreams did I think I might win this award!”

We were also reminded by Mike Senior that 2011 will be the 10th year of the Newsletter and at the end of it we will be celebrating our 100th edition – so make sure you get your contributions in early to secure your invite to this year’s dinner.
