jubilee tree Jubilee tree
By Richard Dorrell

There is a tree growing in The Lee which was planted to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935.

The planting ceremony was attended by a large crowd and the oldest resident of the community had the honour of undertaking the planting. This resident was my Great Grandfather, James Dorrell, then aged 84, who lived at Kings Ash.

As far as I am aware there is nothing to identify the tree today. I would be most interested to hear from anyone who knows about the tree or the planting ceremony or who can identify anyone in the photos... or maybe even remembers being present there themselves!

Also I would be interested in placing a plaque by the tree (at my own expense) giving details of its history, if the people of The Lee would like to have this.
