Possibly the highlight of the summer season
By Catherine Larmour

Aah, an English summer... Ascot, Henley, Glyndebourne... well, never mind them – undoubtedly the only place to be seen and have fun is The-Lee Church fête.

Can you buy home-made cakes at Smith’s Lawn? Can you have a go on the Kick and Splash at The Hurlingham Club? Or in a donkey cart in Cowes? I rest my case. What is more, by being there you’ll be giving vital support to St John the Baptist Church while you enjoy yourself. Come along to The-Lee Green (by kind permission of Liz Stewart-Liberty) between 2:00 and 5:00 pm on Saturday 18th June and you’re guaranteed to have a good time. Adults and children alike will be drawn to the wide variety of stalls, games and refreshments that delight us yearly.
You may have spotted the post on The Lee Forum asking for more helpers – thanks to those who have already been in touch. It’s never too late to join the trusty band of volunteers who make the fête such a great event, so if you’d like to join in, then please call Pam Batty on 863275.

By the time you read this, the big day will be pretty close and we need loads of goodies, so please contact the following people to donate:
  • Raffle prizes: Gilly Hafner 837712
  • Cakes/ jam/ produce for cake stall: Catherine Larmour 837309
  • Cakes for teas: Wendy Robertson 863739 (there’s no such thing as too many cakes on fête day!)
  • Toys: Pam Batty 863275
  • Bric-a-brac (only items in very good condition, please): Nick Batty 863275
  • Plants: Mary Stewart-Liberty 837341

  • Children’s tombola: Rachel Rolfe 837557

You may have had, or you will be getting shortly, a leaflet through your door, requesting bottles, etc. for the tombola stall. And look out for the raffle tickets on sale now.

Many thanks in advance... and see you on the Green (Philip Treacy hats optional).
