On Sunday 22nd May we awoke to the now familiar sounds of howling winds and pouring rain; familiar because that seems to be the pattern whenever the gardens are open.
It seemed churlish to be less than grateful, especially as the gardens were crying out for water. Fortunately, the rain stopped and although the wind was not a pleasant summer zephyr, it did not seem to deter the 500 or so visitors.
Thanks to the heroic efforts of all the helpers, plant sellers, car parkers, tea servers and cake-makers (special mention in dispatches for Jane Neal), we raised £2,911 for the NGS and £970 for the Church and nearly 300 people were served tea!
