By The Lee Old Church Trust
The Old Church was filled to capacity on the evening of Saturday 11th June. We were royally entertained to a most wonderful musical evening organised by Olwen Morris, Director of Music at St Mary’s Amersham and a performer at concert halls throughout the UK and overseas. She played the piano and accompanied the other players in a selection of classical music, much of which was delightfully familiar to many in the audience. The performances were top class and we felt very privileged to hear them in The Lee.
We had solo singing from Stuart Fordyce (bass) who treated us to a selection of operatic arias and from Anna Ramell (soprano) who sang some lovely English songs.
Stephen Morris played his cello, dazzling us with The Flight of the Bumble Bee in dramatic contrast with the smooth and graceful The Swan. We were treated to authentic French songs by Thierry Deneux who accompanied himself on the guitar.
All in all, a varied and popular programme. The audience was very reluctant to allow the performers to end the concert, but hoped they would return for a future occasion.
The promised balmy summer evening weather did not materialise. It poured with rain but this did not dampen the indoor enjoyment of sparkling pink wine and strawberries and cream.
