Over a hundred people packed into the Parish Hall on 12th November for a record-breaking Roving Supper. The previous highest attendance had been 84 but thanks to a publicity campaign by the organisers to attract more of the new arrivals in the village (and in part to the contingent of visitors from Fromelles) the number this year swelled to a staggering 104!
After the customary canapés and drinks in the hall, names were drawn out of the hat to find out ‘who-eats-where’. With so many attending this year a number of additional hosts were recruited and the assembled throng was dispersed in all directions.
Hours later they all staggered back (in dribs and drabs, if truth be told) to polish off desserts and find out if they had won anything in the raffle.
It was clear from the group we were with and from everyone else we spoke to that a great time was had by all – a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Also, over £1,200 was raised during the evening, which will go towards the maintenance of the hall.
Many thanks and much admiration go to Pat Lea in particular (and to Tony) for once again organising this event so successfully. Rumour has it that numbers may have to be limited next year, so as soon as the date is announced make sure you get in early with your booking.
