It’s been a sad start to the year with the deaths of two great stalwarts of The Lee, Robin Allison and Barry Irving. Robin, who was 92, had been in poor health for some time, while Barry’s death at 69 was very sudden and a huge shock. The lives of both are remembered with admiration and affection.

At the very moment of going to press we have also sadly heard of the death of Colin Campbell, another well-known figure in The Lee.

In other news, the Parish is starting to gear up for that staple of the social calendar, the Church Fête. Other events for the diary include the annual Quiz and Curry Night and – no doubt promising to be a touch more sedate – a vintage tea party at the Parish Hall. And don’t forget those all-important elections on 7th May – for The Lee Parish Council, obviously!

And thank God for the Cock and Rabbit and the Old Swan – because as you will see in these pages it’s becoming more and more difficult to get a pint round here anywhere else!

Next month’s editor is Jonathan Batten, please send your contributions to theleenewsletter@googlemail.com or hard copy to Saddlers, Swan Bottom by 12th April.
